After the F11 Pro, Chinese brand Oppo is back with the much awaited Reno series for the Indian mobile consumers. In an event on May 28th, the brand CMO for South Asia Will Yang introduced the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom that has been already a talk of the town for quite something in international markets.
On first impression Oppo Reno 10x Zoom looks an intriguing smartphone that is counting on its 10 times hybrid zoom rear camera to sell in India. Also, we get to see the wedge-shaped shark fin popup front camera on this device which is usually attractive to look at.
Along with in-display fingerprint scanner, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom also has Face Unlock which is impressively fast just like the Oppo F11 Pro. It’s still to do a full review of the new Oppo Reno device but if you are planning to upgrade to the latest Oppo smartphone, this initial review will help.

Oppo Reno 10x Zoom: Design and display
The Oppo Reno 10x Zoom has a 6.6-inch display that overs the 93% of the phone’s front. Protected by the Gorilla Glass 6 display, the display offers a 1080 x 2340 pixel resolution. Just like the recently launched OnePlus 7 Pro, the display on this device is really punchy and you will enjoy watching videos and looking at pictures.
At the launch, two colours were made available, the jet black and ocean green but we believe there will be more colours made available in due course.
The most attractive feature from some is the innovative shark fin pop-up front camera on the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom which is designed to be a sturdy feature. It pops out within 0.8 seconds and slides back with the same speed. If you think it is flimsy in the build then you are wrong. When pressing down on the popup camera, which few of us might do mistakenly, it retracts live the DVD drive on laptops. The Reno 10x Zoom has a metallic frame that makes it a premium smartphone. There is no headphone jack in this smartphone which you need to keep in mind.
Oppo has done some serious thinking when choosing the wedge-shaped popup mechanism for the front camera in the Reno 10x Zoom which is brand ensures that the mechanism will last for at least for 5 years even when you open it for 100 times a day. Oppo has been successful in making this Reno device stand out from the crowd when every brand is adopting popup camera as a design upgrade.
However, just like its peers, popup camera compromises on waterproofing possibility and also the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is thicker (9.3mm) than other premium segment smartphone available right now in India.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Hardware
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom uses the latest Snapdragon 855 platform and it was expected as the Chinese manufacturer has been a longstanding partner of Qualcomm. It is early to comment on the performance of the phone in real life conditions, but the first impression suggests that the smartphone is a snappy performer.
The phone features a 4,065mAh battery which is expected to keep the phone alive for more than a day even under high usage. Point to note here is, just like the OnePlus 7 Pro, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom does not support wireless charging but Oppo’s VOOC fast charge is a very reliable tech as past has shown, this should not be a deal breaker for buyers.
In India, right now there are two variants of the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom listed for prebooking- a 6GB/128GB model and
an 8GB/256GB model.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Cameras
Oppo is betting the success of this smartphone on its primary triple camera setup which is a 48MP primary lens of f/1.7 aperture with Sony’s IMX586 sensor, alongside an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 13MP telephoto lens.
The Chinese brand has tried to include every camera feature in the Reno 10x Zoom to ensure that it is a winner. You can dual-optical stabilization. You can also record 4K videos at 60fps. The real USP of the camera is the 10x hybrid zoom which is not something new, the Huawei P30 Pro already has a feature. The quality of zoom in the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is impressive and the AI-powered zoom does not lose quality up to 10x but beyond that, you will experience shake effect and noise increase.
Impressive design improvement is that there is no flash alongside triple-camera module, instead, it is located in the shark-fin popup. The camera lens is entirely in line with the Gorilla Glass back that gives this device a highly premium look.
For selfies, you get a 16-megapixel f/2.0 front-facing camera that pops out within 0.8 seconds. There is Night Mode, Slo-mo Mode and Expert Mode support along with compatibility with Google Lens. Right now, there is not much to cover in terms of image quality but soon we will update this review with full details.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Software
All the devices in the latest Oppo Reno series feature the ColorOS 6 that runs on top of Android 9 Pie. Oppo F11 Pro has the same UI and we have covered how ColorOS improve the user experience making it more intuitive. Now there is an app drawer which is a much-needed improvement.
Among other improvements, there is a newly-designed notification drop-down and settings shade. We will update how the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom interface helps in day-to-day use.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom Price & Availability
In India, the device will be exclusively available on Flipkart from June 7. There will be two variants on sale a 6GB/128GB model priced at Rs. 39,990 and an 8GB/256GB model for Rs. 49,990. Both the variants will be available in Jet Black and Ocean Green colours.
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom-First Impression Verdict
Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is an overall improved introduction from the Chinese brand in the Indian market. It is well designed, have optimized software, has premium design and because of high price tag has the most updated specs in every department.
Absence of wireless charging is a bummer and so is the thicker and heavier design. However, these are minor flaws in comparison to real strengths of the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom which is its Snapdragon 855 processor, generous RAM and AI-powered hybrid zoom.
At the price tag, the Oppo Reno 10x Zoom is being made available, it can be a real gap-filler between the mid-range and top-end flagship smartphones.
